30 TDP members file papers in seats where TRS already filed papers.

In a tit-for-tat action, TDP made 30 candidates file their nominations in assembly constituencies where Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) nominees had already filed their papers. TDP sources said the hurried but well thought out political move was aimed at hitting out at TRS which had fielded its candidates in about seven constituencies in addition to its quota of 46.

Chiru talks of a new front

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi foresees a fourth alternative to Congress, TDP and Grand Alliance in State and also at the Centre. However, he reiterated that doors were closed for any more alliances before elections. Hinting at fourth front during a press conference here on Monday, Chiranjeevi said the new front is in formulation stage and no skeleton is prepared yet. He did not elaborate on the statement and moved on to other subjects. He announced that he is going to file his nomination in Narsapuram or Palkollu on 3rd of April and in Tirupati on 4th. He confirmed that he made comments about Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Jagan Mohana Reddy’s corruption in yesterday’s tour. He again alleged that Jagan got a number of properties on binami names.


Bhadrachalam receives special train.

The South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced a special train Vijayawada-Bhadrachalam Road-Vijayawada to clear extra rush of passengers. The Train 705 Vijayawada-Bhadrachalam Road would depart Vijayawada at 11.35 p.m on April 2 and reach Bhadrachalam Road at 4.25 a.m. o the next day. The Train 706 Bhadrachalam Road-Vijayawada special would depart Bhadrachalam Road at 6 p.m. on April 3 and reach Vijayawada at 10 p.m.


DMK would welcome creation of separate Eelam: Karunanidhi.

The DMK would welcome creation of a separate 'Eelam', a homeland for Sri lankan Tamils, if it was achieved through a democratic process, party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Monday. "We will be glad if a separate Eelam (state) is created (in the Island nation) by people voting for it," he told reporters here. He said that "attempts of some opposition parties in Tamil Nadu to paint the UPA government at the Centre and the DMK government in the state as anti Sri Lankan Tamils" would not suceed.


Azhagiri hints at contesting Lok Sabha polls.

DMK's strongman in southern districts and son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, M.K. Azahgiri, on Monday hinted that he could contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from the city. Claiming that he had completed a pre-election tour in three constituencies, he told reporters here he was "going for the interview (of aspiring candidates) on Apri l2" and he would know only then whether he would contest or not. "Whoever contests from Madurai in the DMK-led alliance will win," Mr. Azhagiri, who is also the party organising secretary of the southern districts, said.


DMDK members hail SC verdict

DMDK local unit members have gathered at various junctions in and around Puducherry town, to welcome the recent Supreme Court verdict, allocating the symbol 'drum' (nagara) to the party in the Lok Sabha election. The activists led by party local unit leader Ganesh, distributed sweets and pamphlets to the passers by on Sunday.


Students among 25 injured in bus accident

Mangalore : Some schoolchildren proceeding to write their SSLC (10th standard exams) were among the over 25 persons injured when the private bus in which they were travelling turned turtle and fell into a 25 foot ditch at Iruvailu near here on Monday. Police said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, following which it turned turtle and fell into the ditch on the roadside.


Ananth Kumar files papers, seeks 5th term from Bangalore South.

BJP General Secretary H N Ananth Kumar on Monday filed his nomination papers from the prestigious Bangalore South constituency, seeking a fifth consecutive Lok Sabha term. Mr. Kumar, accompanied by his wife Tejaswini, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu and party activists, submitted the papers before the Returning Officer, after performing pooja at a temple here.


Raking up SNC-Lavalin issue can't weaken CPI(M)

Kochi : CPI(M) state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday accused certain sections of the media of trying to repeatedly rake up the SNC-Lavalin corruption case linking him to it, saying such attempts to weaken the party will fail. "The attempts of certain sections of the media to raise the SNC Lavalin issue, which has gone down the drain, will not succeed," he said, speaking after inaugurating a conference hall at the office of party mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' here.

THALASSERY: Sainuddin alias Sattar Bhai (57), a key operative in the suspected terrorist network having links with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was on Monday sent in custody of the police Special Investigation Team (SIT) for 10 days for interrogation in connection with the ongoing investigation into the operations of terror modules in the State.
